In 2009, South Africans Debbie Callitz and Bruno Pelizarri have sold everything to buy a yacht and pursue their dream of sailing to India. But after two months at sea their plans lie in tatters; all their money, tools and GPS have been stolen from the boat. So when they get the chance to crew another yacht back to South Africa for cash, they jump at it. Two days into the journey however, they are boarded by Somali Pirates and held at gunpoint. After two weeks at sea, the yacht is beached in Somalia and the couple are held captive in a small heavily guarded room for months. They are chained, beaten, sexually harassed and starved; and when after ten months the ransom of $20 million has still not been paid, the couple are forced to make a decision …..which one of them will die.
